Keynote Speaker: Paul M. Novak, M.P.H., Executive Director & Emergency Management Administrator at Slippery Rock University

Presentation: Violence in the Workplace: Active Shooter Awareness & Survival

Description: Paul will dig deep into an active shooter situation and how to react to it. Topics covered will include but not be limited to awareness and survival, safety vs risk, and some FBI statistics. 

Speaker Bio: Paul M. Novak, M.P.H.

Mr. Novak has been a part of the administrative team at Slippery Rock University since early 2011.  He currently serves as Executive Director of Facilities & EHS, Emergency Management Administrator and University Fire Marshal. Mr. Novak also provides services towards asbestos management, building & fire code compliance, campus planning, and project and risk management.

Mr. Novak earned three degrees from Youngstown State University in medical technology, the combined sciences of biology, chemistry and geology, and a master of public health majoring in EHS administration. He was employed in the EHS department there and served as an emergency responder and emergency response coordinator in addition to his safety duties.

Mr. Novak was also employed by Cleveland State University, serving as Director of EHS and Radiation Safety Officer, Emergency Management Director and University Compliance Officer at Cleveland State University prior to coming to the Rock. He made presentations to the University Board of Trustees on campus safety and compliance including emergency preparedness initiatives and developed and presented numerous active shooter trainings for university employees as part of new employee orientations and on-going campus emergency preparedness trainings.


Breakout One: presented by Dr. Rhonda Clark, Instructor of Management & VITA Internship Supervisor, School of Business with Slippery Rock University

Description: Quick and Easy to Use Tools for Managing Projects. This session focuses on quick and easy to use tools for better organization and efficiency skills for projects and / or events.  Most HR professionals work on projects outside of their normal duties and responsibilities. These Project Management Tools will help HR professionals to be more effective on planning projects/events and manage their time more efficiently.

Speaker Bio: Rhonda Clark, Ph.D., teaches business management courses in the School of Business at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. Her research interests include sustainability, entrepreneurship, economic development, and human resource management. She is also the project director of the Sustainable Enterprise Accelerator (SEA) at Slippery Rock University.

Breakout Two: presented by Davevic Benefit Consultants, Inc. to include David Gordon, President, Mike Johnson, Senior Manager of Individual Sales, and Adam Seger, Compliance Director.  

Description: This session focuses on health insurance, keeping administrative services in compliance, ACA compliance & benefits administration, Western PA individual insurance update.

David Gordon: President of Davevic Benefit Consultants, Inc. with over 25 years of benefit consulting experience

Mike Johnson: Senior Manager of Individual Sales, with 8 years of benefit consulting experience

Adam Seger: Compliance Director, with 3 years of benefit consulting experience
